The bar was heaving, and just like Spencer had predicted, all eyes did indeed turn in their direction when they walked in. Helen would have shrunk at the male attention, but Hell embraced it and revelled in it.

They found a table and settled into their seats. The server immediately came over to take their order. “Good evening. What can I get you guys?”

Spencer looked from Nancy to Helen with his eyebrows raised. “A beer and a couple of tequila shots each?”

Nancy nodded and held up three fingers. “Yeah, but let’s make it three shots.”

“Cool. Can I get you anything to eat?”

Spencer shook his head. “No, we’re good thanks.”

Spencer and Nancy began to make small talk, but Helen was only half-listening, too busy scanning the faces for potential victims to practise her new vamping skills on. She’d been trying to forget about Jake, who had been on her mind since she had awoken, and the only way that was going to happen was to let Hell out of her box to flirt again.

A tall, thick-set guy leaning on the bar, looking their way, stood out from everyone.

“I’ll be sorry to see Jake leave.”

The comment caught Helen’s attention. “What’s that?”

Spencer turned to face her. “Jake texted me this morning saying he’s looking for another job.”

The server came back and began placing the drinks on the table. “There you go. Enjoy!”

Nancy was squirming excitedly in her seat. “Shall we do two shots first?”

Spencer picked up a shot glass. “Okay, my little nest of vipers—anything for you.”

Nancy laughed and slapped Spencer on the arm. “Stop it already, or I might have to take you into a stall in the restroom and inflict your first punishment of the night!”

Spencer wiggled the tip of his tongue suggestively. “Right, pick up your first shot! In succession after three! Three, two, one!”

They all threw back their first shot, followed by another.

Helen blew out through inflated cheeks. “Whoa, that hits the spot.”

The man who had been leaning against the bar was suddenly standing in front of them. “Good evening all.” He looked directly at Helen. “Can I steal you away from your friends for a quick spin on the dancefloor?”

Nancy didn’t give Helen time to reply. “Of course you can. My sister would love that!”

Helen looked over at Nancy with raised eyebrows and then turned back to the man. He was quite handsome up close, but his body was the deal clincher. The guy clearly worked in construction. His shirt barely contained his bulging biceps. A slow song was playing, which meant Helen would strike lucky and get some body-on-body action.

She smiled brightly at him. “I’d love to.”

Mr. Biceps held his hand out and led Helen over to the dance floor. She was right; it was like she was dancing with a refrigerator—hard, but also cold. He had a rocking body, but no sparks were flying like there had been when she was with Jake. But you aren’t after fireworks Helen, this is a use and abuse mission only. Where’s Hell gone? She needed to listen to the voice in her head.
